Hi, I'm a former serious audiophile, about to get back into things after seven or eight years out of things. I've got a basic system with good/excellent components all around *except* for my preamp. Right now I'm using a Dynaco PAS 3. I'm interested in buying a first quality preamp, and have heard good things about the Van Alstine Super Pas 3, which is a souped up version of the old standby Dynaco Pas 3 tube preamp. Because these preamps are rare, and not sold through retail outlets, its difficult to audition them. Does anyone out there have any experince with this (or other AVA) equipment? They also sell this model preamp as a kit which you can build yourself for about $300. The rest of my setup is: tt:Thorens 125 MkII/SME series 3/Grace f9E amp: pair of modified Dynaco MkVI 120 Watt mono tube amps speakers: Rogers LS 3/5a thanks for your help and comments.
