I am posting to this group because there is at least the possibility of a civil answer. |->. I recently re-routed my speaker wire through the walls, and since I did not have the funds to replace my Monster Cable for the whole distance, I used 12 gauge romex wire. I had listened to the romex before and was impressed with the sound. (Distinctly different from the Monster Cable, but I will not use term like transparent, etc.) But the question is this: why does my amp use such a greater amount of power than with the Monster Cable? I have an NAD 1020 integrated amp and previously, the power lights would only flicker on the first light at reasonably high volumes. Now the volume control is almost maxed out, and the fifth (highest) light now occasionally comes on. I do not encounter any distortion or clipping and the overall length is not appreciably greater. Can the difference between solid core wire and braided wire of the same gauge make this much difference?
