I have just purchased a used Yamaha DSP-1 digital signal processor. The unit seems to work well. The startup message is "YAMAHA V1.0 DSP 8607", indicating V1.0 of firmware. Has anyone seen a later firmware release? I dumped the firmware (the unit uses a Hitachi HD6303RP processor to control the 24-bit audio DSP's. The firmware is stored in a NEC 27C256-20 EPROM) ). It appears to have some MIDI messages in the ROM. Any ideas on why the MIDI stuff?? Has anyone else hacked on the DSP-1??? The CPU board has a Hitachi HD63A50P ACIA chip which appears to a serial link to the three Yamaha DSP's. Each DSP has six NEC D4464C-15L DRAMs, which are organized as 16Kx4. There is a switch labelled SW501 "TEST", located on the right front corner (when the DSP-1 is viewed from the front) on the CPU board. If this switch is depressed when the unit is powered up, the diagnostic routines are executed. The diagnostic routines are controlled by the remote. Any one know how to control the routines??? I also have a new Adcom CD player (GCD-575). Does anyone have information on the coding technique used on the coaxial digital output (A single RCA output)?? Do fiber & coaxial use the same coding technique???? Roger Link LINKR@VTVM1 Physics Electronics Shop Room 1 Robeson Hall Blacksburg Va 24061
