My friendly-neighborhood-car-stereo-thieves have given me the opportunity to upgrade my car's system, which used to consist of an Alpine 7390 head unit and an Alpine CD changer (and amps and speakers which I've still got :-) I figure all I really need is a head unit with a tuner and a CD player (i.e. I don't need cassette or CD changer). Which brings me to my question: Who makes better tuners than Alpine? I was never impressed with the way the 7390's radio sounded, and I'd like to find something better. More specifically, I was satisfied with the 7390's ability to pull in stations, it's just the radio always sounded "compressed". Oh, the AM section didn't even pull in well, but then I almost never listen to AM. Various dealers have suggested I consider Blaupunkt, Yamaha, or Nakamichi as alternatives; any experiences with these brands, and are there others I should consider as well? Any recomendations about what I should buy??? Thanks in advance for the advice; if a lot shows up via e-mail I'll post a summary. tim -- Tim Singletary, August Automation Inc., (301) 286-7942 -- NRA extremist, etc.
