[rec.audio.high-end] Autosound vs. home audio

koseki@uhccux.uhcc.Hawaii.Edu (Ted Koseki) (07/16/90)

Concerning the subject of car audio recently, I might like to add a little
tid-bit, if I may, concerning the hi-end audio products.

In the January/February 1990 issue of _Car Stereo Review_ (from the makers of
_Stereo Review_), there was an article concerning both autosound and home audio.
Although I admit to the fact that the automobile is not your "perfect" listeningenvironment, car audio products are just as good as home audio components. The
article, although subjective in their voting, put car audio components on just
about the same levels as home audio components.

The components are listed as: Nakamichi TD-1200II car deck, Nakamichi Dragon
home cassette deck, Sony CDX-A2001 car CD changer system, Denon DCD-3520 home
 CD player.

The reference system was as follows: Hafler Dh-220 115-watt power amp, matching
Dh-110 preamp, Snell A/IIIi speakers, all connected by Monster Cable M1000
 interconnects.

The most interesting would be the stats that were recorded in a table...

MODEL Spectral Spatial Definition Dynamics Noise Avg.
Uniformity Rendition & Clarity & Distortion

TD-1200II 6.8 7.3 7.0 6.4 8.1 7.12

Dragon 6.0 6.6 7.5 6.2 8.4 6.94

CDX-A2001 7.3 7.2 7.3 6.6 9.1 7.50

DCD-3520 6.3 6.9 7.7 7.4 9.4 7.54

If you want to read the rest, the magazine is listed above. If you ask me,
this test was mighty interesting... :)
