[rec.audio.high-end] alcohol vs. vinyl

I have often heard that alcohol is bad for vinyl. I have also heard that
it's ok as long as you get it off again quickly. In practice, I use it
when it is necessary to clean a gunky record quickly and thoroughly. I have
not noticed any ill after-effects. But what do I know?

I used to work for a high end store at which we made our own cleaning fluid
for a KMAL cleaning machine. It was 90% distilled water, 10% isopropyl
alcohol, a dash of Discwasher fluid as a wetting agent. It was important
to get the stuff off fairly quickly as the alcohol would damage the vinyl
if left on, we were told.

It worked quite well.
