I've got 9 of the 10 CDs, and have been listening to them over the past 1.5 weeks. (The tenth will be in any day now.) I have some of the Mercury Living Presence LPs for comparison to the CDs. Overall, I'd say that Wilma and company have done a remarkable job; the CDs range from very, very good to astonishing. At this rate, I'd say that digital will "arrive" (for audiophiles) within the next five years, for all but the most hardened vinylphiles. I love both media, have a special place for vinyl, but wish digital well. If we "do it right" (Theta's phrase), I'd say that there's little reason to worry about the future of fine music. --David -- My opinions belong to me...and vice versa. I bought the Dvorak Cello Concerto CD. I've been interested in this recording for a long time, but didn't feel like shelling out $150 for it. Let me say that I shelled out $10, and it was really worth it! What a recording. I don't think I've ever heard a recording where the orchestral crescendos had such impact, except maybe on the one Living Presence LP I own (The Birds, found it at a yard sale, kind of beat up). Plus, for a CD, the liners and artwork were pretty good. Wow. Great job. Prediction: TAS will say...'lacks sounstage, high end rolled off, no "air" around the instruments, no bass, same old digital crap...' Hopefully, I'm wrong about this. It would be a shame for them to pan this, since it is a very important event *musically*. Pete hugo@sunapee.dartmouth.edu
