I am thinking of buying a used Mk.III Delphi for $700. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between that and the latest version? Has anyone had any listening experience with this turntable? Do you think that the MMT Studio arm (apparently quite new) would be a good match? Thanks in advance, Tasos tasos@bu-pub.bu.edu

The SME IV arm (with the SME V interconnect cable) is a good combination. The IV has the following differences: o hard platter, not the traditional sticky mat of oracles o heavier clamp (now i thought that the clamping action was acheived by the screw action, so the heavier clamp must 'centre' the mass) [The old clamp flexed. -tjk] o AC motor (this might be an option only) i demoed the IV with a koestu black and a sme iv through spectral pre and power and logan CLS's. (my usual is meitner and shinon, same speakers) i found the IV to be very cold. the detail was much better on MARI (three blind mice records) but i did not get the sense of presence that i am used to on that recording. to top it off, i think that the delphi III looks a lot better than the IV.
