[rec.audio.high-end] LP12,RB-300

What makes the LP-12 by Linn so special ?

What are the design principles and in what way do the differ
from Thorens/Roksan/Ariston. (do they differ?)
Can anyone tell me what will happen to the performance of the turntable
when you make the stainless steel base plate say 3 mm thick ?
What's the effect of replacing the steel subchassis by the one
offered by Russ Andrews, a -torlyte- version ?
( I only heard that is suppose to be lighter and stiffer )

Rega RB 300 mod.

Is there anyone who can tell me, if it's worth replacing the wire
inside the Rega RB 300 arm and how to preform such an operation ?
The people at Rega said it only changed the sound, it was no upgrade
and dangerous too. Definitely not advisable.
I'm thinking of replacing the wiring by Van den Hul's silverlitze
and adding a fifth wire as earth. Any advice ?
