[rec.audio.high-end] advice on repairing MR67 reception

I have a few questions about repairing (or improving) the reception
quality in McIntosh MR67 tuner. I got this one about a couple of
months ago. The sound is actually quite good but the reception is
really poor. I used a active antenna (BP9700, recommended in Stereo-
phile) with the tuner. It improved, but not much better than my cheap
Aiwa walkman. I called a few places which would like to try it. The
repairment fee is, however, above my budget. Someone told me that it
maybe just because of some deteriorated tubes in the reception stage.
Does anyone know how I can do this cheaply if I am capable of simple
electronic work? If it is because of bad tubes, which ones should I
replace and where can I get them?

Thanks in advance,
