[rec.audio.high-end] turntables

dpeterse@pikes.Denver.Colorado.EDU (Dennis H. Petersen) (11/05/90)

I'd like to purchase a new turntable in the $1000-ish range in a month or so.
As I see it, this leaves me with 3 choices given what the dealers carry in my
area: 1.The Linn Axis. 2. VPI HW-19 jr. and 3. The Audio Research ES 1.

I'd like to hear from people who have purchased one of these tables, and I'd
especially like to hear from someone who has upgraded the junior(how expensive
and how much difference did it make). With the rapidly approaching death of
vinyl I'd like to get a good turntable before records end up as museum pieces.

The AR-ES1 has does not have the best bearings, and is not as solid
as the VPI Jr. Howver, the JR. lacks a supspension, so it will only work
in setups that are immune from acoustic feedback.
