Everyone,
I am looking for guidance in the resurection of an old
Marantz model 8B pwoer amp. The unit is operational however
the right channel's 8 ohm tap has gone bad. Having little
experience in audio electronics it appears as though faulty
winding in a transformer is the culprit. I was wondering if
anyone in Net-Land could give me advice on finding parts.
The next question that comes to mind concerns some behavioral
glitches the unit demonstrates during operation. The Unit
plays well once warmed and is never driven very hard.
(music is played at conversation level) I have noticed however
a tendancy for the amp to "overheat". ( I say this as I am
of the actual problem) Twenty minutes or so of operation will
result in an almost linear digression of the volume of lower
frequencies until ulitmately the right channel will dip in
decibles entirely. A few seconds in front of a small fan however
will cure the problem however. Is this problem related to the
fact that I am runing the wrong impedance. My speakers are
rated with an 8ohm impedance, However I am using the 4 ohm
taps on the amplifier. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
