I recently purchased a Pioneer C-21 preamp. Is impressive: good construction, all discrete transistors, good caps, regulators for each channel, many supply filter points, front panel cartridge loading, large sealed Alps pots. This preamp is from the time when Pioneer made the 30 W/ch class A power amps. Does anyone have comments on the preamp or other components from that time? Are these components a good way to get into the bottom of the high-end? The preamp cost me $135. Sound is good; a few more rounds of equipment changes will tell me more. I expect comparisons with Adcom, etc. would be quite fair. bill S.
