Hi all, Thanks to all who responded to my question about setting VTA. I think I have an idea what to listen for. And now for something completely different ... I have a Target TT5 component rack (a metal brace with 5 shelfs kind of like the type made by Arcici). I am not at all confident of the wooden shelfs provided for this rack (the shelves vibrate like anything) and have been experimenting with replacing it with other things. I know of the Brassfield isolation shelf but they are pretty expensive at around $500 (and I need 5 of 'em!). I thought perhaps marble slates cut to fit the metal brace would offer an elternative to the wood. Has anyone experimented with anything along these lines?? Thank you for your support. satish nair

If you use marble, use Carrera marble which is the densest marble. Other marbles will ring. Another thought: weight the bottom shelf with lead ingots. -- ray

Yes, I have a Target TT2 (the two shelf type), which I used to use as the turntable support. My Roksan Xerxes has no suspension and was prone to picking up footsteps etc. I changed the top plate for a specially made substitute made out of Torylite. This is a wooden board, actually made of cells covered in an outer skin (I think). It is very light, but also very rigid and worked wonders for my system and also for a friends CD player as well. The turntable is now on a Origin Live table but the Torylite/Target combination still works OK, holding the pre amp of the floor. The Sicomin shelf is also meant to be very good (and very expensive). I have not tried one in my system but see them at lots of high-end demos. Simon David Informix UK Tech Support simond@informix.com
