Hi, I am sure that this topic must have been beaten to death here, but I am considering buying into some home audio equipment, and I want the very best. $15,000 is about the most I can spend for the system. What I want to know is who the "name companies" are amongst American audio companies, particularly high-end amplifiers. I am interested in an amplifier designed to drive high-demand bass loads -- hopefully a Class-A amplifier with a damping factor about 500, a THD of approximately .01% at its rated 4-ohm power, and a linear increase in power with decreasing impedence. I doubt I will drive 1-ohm loads, though, so the amp only has to go down so far. I am much more familiar with high-end car audio, so if you would please brief me on "desirable traits of home audio amplifiers," I would much appreciate it. Considerations of dynamic headroom and so forth, as well as home audio eqpt. traits that are not available or discussed in car audio are particularly interesting. I am a bass freak, so point out amps designed for such. Speaker systems that are designed to handle 20hz fundamentals, but optimized for 45 hz performance, along with a solid midbass handling, would be also interesting. I am willin and able to put together my own enclosures from raw drivers, so if components are the suggestion, so be it. Thanks. Joe. -- ***************************************************************** Joseph Kraska INTERNET: joe@amos.ucsd.edu BITNET: joe@amos.bitnet *****************************************************************
