[rec.audio.high-end] Digital Compact Cassette ?

rbennet1@gara.une.oz.au (Robert Bennetts) (04/29/91)

Can anyone tell me what sort of head is being used for read/writing
to digital compact cassette? Is it a rotating head or just like a normal
compact cassette head? My guess is that it is a rotating head.It would have
to be to get enough digital data onto the tape (wouldn't it?).

If it is just a normal head, what is stopping anyone from taking the digital
output from their CD and recording it straight to tape? Then play it back
through some sort of D to A circuit between the tape deck and the amp.Forgive
me if this sounds like a silly suggestion but I have not nearly enough
technical knowledge to figure out if this is a viable proposition or not.

Just another couple of questions. What sampliing rate do CD players use.And
am I correct in thinking that CD players use 16 bit sampling.

                                                    Thanks in advance....
