[rec.audio.high-end] Corey Greenberg and the BUF-03

henry@ginger.sri.com (Henry Pasternack) (05/11/91)

I can't imagine you'd need an offset null adjustment for the
BUF-03. I know nothing about the device, but it shouldn't have
an output offset more than a few millivolts at the most. Could
be wrong, though.

Does anyone know of a distributor for PMI parts that will sell
in small quantities to mortals? Also, can anyone recommend the
Alps potentiometers sold by Old Colony? The dual units are supposed
to be matched to 2dB -- sounds pretty bad to me.

The BUF-03 (and other PMI parts) can be gotten through Newark Electronics.
They've got many branches throughout the country. One number I pulled out
was their branch in Martinez, CA - (415)372-3782. They have a $25 min order
and $3.80 s&h charge. Be explicit about how you want parts shipped though.
The last time I ordered from them, they took the liberty (or initiative) of
shippng 2nd day air.

The BUF-03s don't come cheap - 12.65 each for the BUF-03FJ and 21.64 for
the BUF-03FJ (better specs).

Someone asked me about power supplies and I built one of the newer ones
from Old Colony (KG-5 by Walt Jung, Rich Markell, Gary Galo AA 4/90)
and it's performed well. It improved the sound of my CD player noticably.
I got the board, the Linear Technology regulators and some WIMA caps from
Old Colony. Too bad they charge an arm and a leg for stuff.

Is there some other retail source for Linear Technology components?
