Guidelines for Posting to Rec.Audio.High-End
Rec.Audio.High-End is the newsgroup devoted to serious discussions of High
End Audio; it is bidirectionally gatewayed to the Internet mailing list
Info-High-Audio.
Rec.Audio.High-End is intended to serve those who pursue audio as more than
just a passing interest. Any number of subjects might be discussed on R.A.H-E,
what type of regulator works best, high-end equipment reviews, discussions
about recording techniques or recording reviews.
Since this is a serious forum and not rec.humor, I'd like to keep the
discussions serious. This is also not alt.flame; please try to limit posting
temperatures to luke-warm.
Some subjects are more appropriate for rec.audio --- these include:
"What's the best $195 speaker?"
"Where can I get XXXX headphones?"
"Distilled snake oil can never work!"
New for July 1990: Since many people have been trying to post For-Sale
messages to both rec.audio and rec.audio.high-end, sneaking around the no
crossposting guidelines, I have decided to prohibit For-Sale messages
altogether. Post them to rec.audio and misc.forsale instead.
I don't like rejecting postings. I really don't. I REALLY REALLY don't. I
might, though, for a few reasons: your spelling and grammar are so bad even
I can't decipher your post; there are so many factual errors even I know you
don't know what you're talking about; or the subject is more appropriate for
rec.audio or rec.humor.
Please send your posting through a spell checker before you send it, so
others don't think you're an idiot.
You may also want to include some kind of signature file, as the inews on
this machine is determined to strip off and otherwise mangle as many headers
as it can. The address for submission, if you want to mail it, is
info-high-audio@csd4.csd.uwm.edu
There is an archive available, but only by anonymous FTP. Don't ask me to
mail you a lot of back issues, because I won't. If you want one, maybe two,
send me mail and we'll discuss it. If you want it all, send me a nine-track
half-inch tape (reel, NOT cartridge!) that'll do 6250 bpi and I'll tar it
off for you. The FTP archive is in the directory "high-audio" and is
compressed. "uncompress" is available from comp.sources archives.
Here's some "rules" to follow:
1. Posts need pertain to high-end audio. I don't know exactly what high-end
audio is and neither does anyone else, but I'm moderating so I get to
decide.
2. Discussion must be serious; direct flames and jokes to rec.audio. See
number 1 above.
3. Followups must be relevant; "me too" articles can be sent via mail. Also,
try not to include too much previous text. How boring. I'd rather have one
good short article once a month than a large amount of BS every day.
4. Grammar and spelling must be reasonably good. Spelling checkers are all
over the place. If you have an excellent article, I may take the time to
correct it.
5. Information should be as accurate as possible; I may have the accuracy of
your article verified before I post it. Obviously, I am not an expert in
everything, so if it looks reasonable, I'll post it. If I don't agree with
it, but it looks reasonable, I'll post it. If it's random
frothing-at-the-mouth, you can bet yer backside I'll bounce it.
6. Post to either rec.audio or rec.audio.high-end, but not both. If I see
both newsgroups in the header, I'll bounce it. If it never reaches
rec.audio, that's your problem, not mine.
