After listening to the Chesky Sampler test tracks, I can say that it definitely demonstrates the spatial effects claimed, although it requires a proper set-up and room acoustics to make them clear. For example, the "up" track in my system tends to hang just above the speaker and then jump to the ceiling only at the end (instead of rising smoothly). Overall, this disc is more of an educational experience than a true test recording (somewhat like the examples of different microphones on the Stereophile test disc). Obviously, Chesky has an interest in "educating the public" (i.e. creating a desire in the market place) with respect to the benefits and potential of recordings by audiophile labels. The best use for the disc is probably to help in positioning speakers and treating a room to improve the soundstage. It's also good for amazing your non-audiophile friends. Chip Weems
