[rec.audio.high-end] Chesky's 128x oversampling, etc.

Well, I guess I've been slightly misled (or suffer fuzzy memory) by
Chesky's literature and press (TAS) fluff. Still, I do think that
they were the first kid on the block using this type of technology
commercially. I hope it will become commonplace, given the results on
the Mercury CD's.

I think that Chesky's audio engineer pal (who fixed the Ampex tape
deck and made the mixer) is not the best in the world. When they
stopped doing their own LP mastering, and started sending the master
tapes to The eXchange (Tim de Paravicini) for mastering, there was a
major audible improvement. The last two LP's (Power of the Orchestra
and Daphnis et Chloe) are just stunning. Please buy them so they can
release more! (Thanks are due to RCA/BMG for trusting Chesky with the
original master tapes.)

By the way, what Wadia is doing is not bullshit. We have folks at
this company who have been involved with coding theory and digital
filter design stuff since the 1960's, and what Wadia is doing has real
precedents. Whether it is the most cost-effective solution is another
question. Certainly some "Bitstream" based products have been getting
subjective (listening) reviews almost as good as Wadia at 1/10th the
price.
