Just an reminder in passing, to fuel the discussion. Just as a highly capable robot arm is spoken of as having six or more degrees of freedom, so the human kinesthetic sense can return an extremely large "dimensionality", and (with respect to power gloves, etc.), also output joint position information useful for recording/controlling multi-dimensional navigation. It's probably a good idea to break the thought mold that we live in a universe limited to three or four dimensions. That is true only of our visual and auditory senses. Kinesthesia, smell, and tactile senses are much richer in dimensionality, and it may be fruitful to look there for the solutions to some of the problems currently under discussion. It is also especially poignant that smell seems particularly effective at binding time. Kent, the man from xanth. <xanthian@Zorch.SF-Bay.ORG> <xanthian@well.sf.ca.us>
