[sci.virtual-worlds] Virtual Worlds Database Now Online

cyberoid@milton.u.washington.edu (Robert Jacobson) (11/02/90)

Numerous participants have recommended the creation of a
Virtual Worlds Database available from sci.virtual-worlds,
via USENET.

The Virtual Worlds Database is now available by anonymous
FTP (file transfer) at the following location:

milton.u.washington.edu

The Virtual Worlds database resides at this location and
is filed as:

/public/virtual-worlds/bibliography

Recent additions to the bibliography, which is currently
sized at 13K, will be filed as:

/public/virtual-worlds/recent-additions

Eventually an automated fileserver will be available to
provide the updated bibliography on an as-requested basis.
The availabilityof this service will be announced when it's
ready for use.

It's our intention to grow the database to include, in
addition to the bibliography, research reports submitted
to sci.virtual-worlds and an online-accessible library of
virtual world models.

Please send recommendations for addition to the Virtual
Worlds Database to me at the address above, or post them
to sci.virtual-worlds. Please include a short abstract of
with the usual information (author(s) name, title, year
of publication, source, and so forth). We will be using
INGRES as our data management software.

Thanks to James Demmers and Alan Wexelblatt, who offered
to do these things before we knew we had the machinery at
hand, right here in the HIT Lab.
