+++++++++++++++++++++++++++  VSIG NOTES  +++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Since the subscription to VSIGroup's mailing list has doubled in the
last three weeks, we feel our goals need to be reiterated.

The VIRTUAL SPACE INTEREST GROUP of STANFORD is a student run
organization to promote education, research, and development
with respect to virtual space technologies. We generally
define "virtual space" to be data structures that are not
limited to, but include linear geometric dimensions. With
such a data structure we can model real world and imaginary
objects for design, analysis, or entertainment. Of substantial
interest to us are developments enabling the projection of
ourselves into such a data space for interaction with the
virtual objects or each other. Virtual space is a MEDIUM for
  expression and communication.

Our goals are to bring together Bay Area and Stanford
Community efforts to develop this medium, in an effort to
promote the exchange of ideas and encourage education, research,
and development in the Stanford Community.

The VSIGroup was fortunate to be invited by the Design Theory
& Methodology forum (DT&M) to sponsor this quarter's speaker
series, entitled "Virtual Space Applications in Design". In
the future, VSIGroup hopes to hold monthly evening forums with
one or two invited speakers, technology demonstrations, and
most importantly an informal social for interaction. The
VSIGroup hopes to raise funds to present impressive projects and
  speakers to the Stanford Community.

Do to the overwhelming requests for VSIGroup information from around
the world (four countries are currently represented), we need to
stress that membership is for active and potential active partici-
pants in a related field. To this end, we request that anyone wishing
to remain on the mailing list in 1991, submit the following informa-
tion for our records, if we do not have it already:

NAME:
ELECTRONIC ADDRESS: (email, we prefer Internet, if its an option)
PHYSICAL ADDRESS:
VOCAL ADDRESS: (work phone)
AFFILIATION: (include year in school if student, dept., lab, etc.)
INTEREST: (note your current work if related)
PRESENTATION: (if you or your lab would address VSIG in 1991)
WORST DAY: (worst day(s) of the month to attend evening VSIG forums)
RELEASE: (will you release this information, if VSIG is solicited)

  return to:  vsig-request@sunrise.stanford.edu

Unless you OK the release, this information is for VSIG purposes
ONLY. We presently have requests for our membership list from
groups like the Virtual Reality Report and Virtual Reality Film
Documentary. We understand that many labs have been inundated with
phone and email solicitations to the point that they can't get work
done or find useful communication. If such labs have a general
address for these solicitations, please forward the address and we
will protect your personal information.
