 |INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ARTIFICIAL REALITY
 |AND TELE-EXISTENCE
 |
 |July 9-10, 1991
 |Ryutu Center, Tokyo
 |
 |Organized by Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Inc. (NIKKEI)
 |and Japan Technology Transfer Association (JTTAS)

 |[Moderator's Note: This is a very ambitious meeting. The themes
 |outlined go far beyond what we in the West describe as virtual worlds
 |or virtual reality. It has been reported to me that JTTAS is a MITI
 |affiliate; together with the appearance on the organizing committee
 |roster of several MITI researchers, one might suppose that this is
 |THE official Japanese conference on virtual worlds technology. Your
 |comments -- especially those of our Japanese colleagues, to give this
 |some context -- are welcome. -- Bob Jacobson]

Well, it is true that JTTAS has some relationship to MITI. It is
also true that the institutes of some committee members belong to
AIST of MITI. However, I don't think it is not the official Japanese
conference. I heard they are planning to ask the permission of MITI
and AIST to use their name as supporter(s).

Anyway, I agree this is a very exciting field.
