Recently I have requested (on sci.virtual-worlds) information about job opportunities in the area of Virtual Reality (VR). I have recieved several responses from people suggesting openings, but even more queries from people who would like this information for themselves. In order to they to help these people (and myself) in our search for jobs, I have expanded the range of this posting by adding several newsgroups, and reposting to sci.virtual-worlds. If anyone out there knows of job opportunities in VR (see below) or human machine interaction, please email the information to me at the address below, and I will do my best to send the information along as soon as I can get a reasonable list together. Thanks very much, Matt [For those of you who may not be fully sure what VR is all about, let me assure you that many people in the field aren't too sure either. In an empirical sense it is the pinnicle of human computer interaction. Through the use of sensors attached in various configurations to the person (usually--but not limited to--gloves, head/eye position sensors, and voice sensors) there actions are encoded for use in an artificially constructed environment. The computer generates this environment from internaql programs and the user's input. Output is usually in the form of a 3-D visual image (constructed with a special headset) and stereo sound. Force feedback is also sometimes used quite successfully. VR is quite young, and so the research that is going on may go under quite a few different names.] --------------------------- Matthew D.
