PRESENCE is about teleoperators and virtual environments (alter-
nately called artificial environments, artificial realities, or
virtual realities), with special emphasis on the human-machine
interface in such systems. The journal will interest mechanical
and electrical engineers concerned primarily with teleoperators;
computer scientists, high-tech artists, and media people concerned
primarily with virtual reality; and psychologists concerned pri-
marily with human-machine interfaces and with sensorimotor and
cognitive behavior.
