I work for a software company which is about to undertake the development and marketing of a VR game. As a data source for generating the "universe" in which the game takes place we are using a series of fractal algorithms which have fractal dimensions corresponding to the observable universe at various scales. Some scales are: Galaxy, Star Cluster, Solar System, Planet Surface, Forest, Desert, Ocean, Cavern, Weather, City, Room and Object. Experiments have shown that this approach yields an unimaginable amount of detail to the game environment.
