I'm trying to set up a trouble reporting system using local news groups that NEVER expire but can be selectively archived. I'm running cnews with nn as a reader. It seemed like a good quick and dirty way to accomplish basic function for this kind of thing, i.e. post a trouble report, followup with additional info, be able to distinguish various threads with nn, eventually followup with a resolution, then archive the entire thread. I plan on using the Summary: and Keyword: lines for filtering. Its turned out to not be very quick (for me, anyway) and dirty is TBD since I have a few hurdles to overcome. I would appreciate some help in several cnews/nn areas: 1. cnews - What does the line(s) in explist look like to NEVER expire? 2. cnews - How do I selectively archive a thread on demand? 3. nn - How do I enter $EDITOR with a template when posting to one of these groups (and ONLY these groups, not "normal" groups)? 4. nn - How do I enter $EDITOR with a different template when following up to one of these groups? I would greatly prefer not having to modify source -- I've looked and its not too tough, but .... Any advice, experience, answers, critiques, random thoughts, etc would be appreciated. BTW, mh might be better suited for this kind of thing but cnews/nn is the lowest common denominator. It sounds like you want to archive without expiring, or archive specific sets of articles based on criteria other than date; this we do not provide for at all. You'll have to build that yourself, I think. -- "Read the OSI protocol specifications? | Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology I can't even *lift* them!" | henry@zoo.toronto.edu utzoo!henry
