(MONTREAL) Expos General Manager Dave Dombrowski says he's pleased with the signing of reliever Tim Burke to a three-year contract. Dombrowski says the signing guarantees the Expos will have one of the best relief pitchers for years to come. He says there's no question that Burke is a quality staffer and among the best in the league. The Expos announced the signing at a news conference in Montreal today. Terms of the agreement haven't been disclosed. Burke says his decision wasn't just based on the money. He says he also considered that the club can be competitive, and has what he considers strong management. In an a aside at today's news conference, Dombrowski added that the Expos aren't interested in obtaining free-agent catcher Gary Carter. He says it appears either Atlanta or San Francisco want the catcher who played in Montreal earlier in his carrer. campbell/standard broadcast wire
