(TORONTO) The deadline for the report of an inquiry into religious
education in Ontario has passed. (yesterday)
The study by Glenn Watson, former director of education in Brant
County, now is expected to be submitted to Education Minister Sean
Conway early next week. A spokesman for Conway believes that it will be
made public a month or so after that.
Watson's inquiry was set up a few months after a court ruling in
September, 1988 that the Lord's Prayer couldn't be given ``primacy'' in
Ontario's public schools.
His report becomes even more topical, in light of a recent court
decision that public schools should not teach religious courses that
indoctrinate.
