(VICTORIA) The B-C Cabinet has brought in new regulations banning horseplay and sliding headfirst on waterslides. They're part of a bundle of tough, new safety regulations governing the operation of waterslides in the province. The regulations also prohibit standing up on waterslides and diving into the discharge pool, and they require operators to post the prohibitions at the site. Operators will also have to keep a phone and a list of emergency service phone numbers at a permanently-staffed control centre on the site. Other changes require attendants on duty at all times who are trained in first aid and lifesaving techniques, and supervisers must ensure riders are dispatched with adequate safe spacing. The cabinet order also bans use of waterslides during lightning, hail and wind storms and earthquakes.
