(TORONTO) They bought what they thought was to be their dream home
two years ago. Instead it has turned out to be a nightmare and they
haven't even moved in yet. THEY are the people who bought homes in the
Richmond Hill development of Crest Valley.
About two dozen of them protested in front of the same builder's
new sales office on Bathurst Street near highway seven.
One buyer, Rhonda Malchiondo (Mal-KEY-on-doe) says she and the
other buyers want the builder, Sheldon Lipfeld to deliver their homes at
the original prices...Not at the proposed ones which in some cases are
as much as 80-thousand dollars higher.
The builder claims to need them to partially offset quote
``unforseen and abnormal delays'' ... or the deals are off. The
development hasn't even been approved yet.
Malchinondo says Lipfeld has made a fortune on the land. She says
there's no other reason to ask for that kind of money, except for greed.
However the protesters might have no choice but to accept the
ultimatum. If a builder cannot finish a home 240 days after the original
closing date, the deal can be declared null and void.
