	On this date in 1989...North Korea and South Korea launched their
first co-operative project in 43 years. They agreed to work together to
establish a tourist facility. 
	In 1987, Wall Street Journal reporter Gerald Seib was detained on
spy allegations in Iran. But he was released five days later.
	In 1986, 14 deaths were reported in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.
Anti-government rioting raged for two days.
	In 1979, the Ayatollah Homeini arrived in Tehran to become Iran's
leader. He'd been in exile in France. His return sent the Iranian
revolution into overdrive.
	In 1964, Indiana's governor asked radio stations to ban the song
LOUIE LOUIE by the Kingsmen...on the the grounds it is obscene.
	In 1960, the first civil rights sit-in was organized in Greensboro,
North Carolina.
	In 1949, the giant Mount Polomar telescope was completed.
	In 1939, R-C-A began Project X, leading to development of the 45
r-p-m record. 
	In 1865, U-S President Lincoln proclaimed National Freedom Day to
formally abolish slavery in his nation. The constitutional amendment was
ratified in December of that year.

	On this date in 1880...vigilantes murdered five members of the
Donnelly clan at Lucan, north of London, Ontario. The so-called Black
Donnellys were involved in a long-standing fued in the area.
	In 1876, Manitoba abolished its legislative council.
	In 1873, Winnipeg graduated to city status.
	In 1667, the first ball in Canada was staged in Quebec City...to
celebrate a victory over the Iroquois Indians.

	On this date in 1988...federal grand juries in Florida indicted
Panama's General Manuel Noriega. He was implicated in helping drug
traffickers and accepting Millions of dollars in bribes.
	In 1987, Liberace died.
	In 1987, American Dennis Connor won back the America's Cup at
Fremantle, Australia. Connor defeated an Australian crew in four
straight races.
	In 1974, newspaper heiress Patty Hearst was kidnapped.
	In 1938, Hitler seized control of the German army and put Nazis in
key positions.
	In 1889, a palace order said women could wear high-necked dresses
in the Queen Victoria's drawing rooms...under certain circumstances.
	In 1789, George Washington was elected first president of the
United States and John Adams became vice-president.
	In 1615, the death of Jean Porta, developer of the first
encyclopedia.
