[clari.nb.govt] Aus$1M+ Govt Tenders Tops 500 for 1989

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 1990 JAN 30 (NB) -- The number of 
government agency tenders worth AUS$1M or more totalled 
over 500 for 1989, according to the national Tendernews 
service. 

The total value of the 536 contracts was AUS$8.4B, including
AUS$5.3B worth of contracts listed by Australian Defence
Industries [ADI]. ADI is the government-owned agency
handling all Anzac frigate business. Telecom, Australia's
national carrier, listed 236 contracts with a value of
AUS$1.5B, making it the leading buyer for the year.

The most successful tender applicants in monetary terms
were: IBM - AUS$616M; LM Ericsson - AUS$220M; Siemens -
AUS$78M; STC Australia - AUS$59M; Fujitsu - AUS$56M; GEC
Plessey - AUS$52M.
