newsbytes@clarinet.com (02/04/90)

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 1990 JAN 24 (NB) -- Australia's international
carrier, OTC, has signed a memorandum of understanding
[MOU] with Syarikat Telekom Malaysia [STM]. The two
carriers plan to take advantage of business opportunities
in the rapidly growing Southeast Asian communication
services market.

STM is Malaysia's telecommunications service provider and one
of the leading carriers in Southeast Asia. The MOU sets the basis
for collaboration by the companies to enhance existing services
and introduce new services, offer staff training, exchange information
and personnel, and introduce joint projects.

The MOU continues a relationship OTC and STM have had over
the last 12 months in which OTC has assisted STM to develop
its network and management resources. Malaysia is among
Australia's main telecommunications traffic destinations in
the Asia/Pacific region, and, with the growth of business
and tourist trade between the two countries, OTC and STM
see considerable potential for developing services,
facilities, skills, technologies and management, and
operations support systems to the companies' and their
clients' advantage.
