TOKYO, JAPAN, 1990 JAN 5 (NB) -- Sony and Fujitsu have agreed to cooperate to distribute more CD-ROM (compact disc read-only- memory) software. They have succeeded in achieving data compatibility between Sony's Quarter L and Fujitsu's FM-Towns personal computers in the CD-ROM/XA (extended architecture) format. Applications, however, are not interchangeable, since both machines have a different architecture and operating system. With the agreement for CD-ROM promotion, the two sides are now considering the establishment of a CD-ROM consortium. They have decided to entrust software houses to develop software based on the CD-ROM/XA format. (Ken Takahashi/19900111)
