DAYTON, OHIO, U.S.A., 1990 JAN 15 (NB) -- An agreement for Miami, Florida-based Origin Technologies to install and develop applications software for NCR Corp.'s NCR 5682 self-service retail store terminals is estimated to be worth $50 million over the next several years. Nearly 90 of the 5682 terminals, which allow customers to initiate purchase transactions or get product information without waiting for a human store clerk, have already been installed in 20 states. The idea behind the terminals is to provide faster and more accurate service for retail customers as well as reduce costs to retailers. This $17,000-plus NCR self-service terminal is a logical extension of the ATM or automatic teller machines now so widely used in the banking industry.
