DENVER, COLORADO, U.S.A., 1990 JAN 16 (NB) -- Communications World International has reported increased net income of 455,660 (less than one cent per share) on revenue of $634,126 for the first quarter ended October 31, 1989. This compares favorably with the $45,925 (less than one cent per share) on revenue of $1,000,641 for the same quarter a year ago. Systemwide sales, total product and service sales by the 61 Communications World outlets across the country, reached $3.3 million for the quarter. The company enjoyed increased profitability despite an expected decrease in revenue resulting from temporary unavailability of product from Toshiba America Information Systems (TAIS), a major supplier. This product unavailability was linked to a US Commerce Department imposition of tariffs on the imports of certain manufacturers. This dearth of product should be corrected shortly now that TAIS has elected to manufacture in the US. Communications World outlets market telephone systems and other communications products to small and medium-sized businesses and provide ongoing service and support.
