WANCHAI, HONGKONG, 1990 JAN 15 (NB) -- Tandem and Nixdorf Computer Philippines (NCP) have signed an agreement that allows Nixdorf to sell Tandem systems to the banking and financial sectors and act as Tandem's systems integrator in the Philippines. The deal was motivated by the rapid expansion of the banking and automatic teller machine (ATM) markets in the Philippines. The two companies aim to offer the optimum computer system to service these. Dr Victor Sandoval, president of NCP, says, "We will be developing turnkey systems for the Philippines market based on Tandem and Nixdorf hardware and software from both partners. Nixdorf Philippines has been experiencing two years of very healthy growth and this looks set to continue with important assistance from Tandem." Nick Lam, marketing manager for Tandem Hongkong, also responsible for operations in Macau, the Philippines and China, says the company has been looking for a banking and finance systems partner in the Philippines for some time. He revealed that negotiations with Nixdorf began last September and proceeded very smoothly. Working with the new partners will be Applied Communications Incorporated (ACI), which is represented in the Philippines by Dynasoft. It will have the responsibility to develop and modify software to integrate Nixdorf and Tandem systems for various applications under the new venture. The announcement of the agreement comes only days after news of the takeover of Nixdorf by West German electronics giant Siemens to form Europe's largest indigenous computer company.
