SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A., 1990 JAN 17 (NB) -- Advanced Computer Communications (ACC) has announced it will begin this month to ship its new interlinking bridge/router software that supports true bridging and routing simultaneously for local area networking (LAN) connections. ACS 4100 links remote Ethernet LANs and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networks over high speed, point-to-point and X.25 ports. For LAN connections requiring both bridging and routing, the new software combines the functions simultaneously over the same physical link. The ACS 4100 is not restricted to proprietary protocols. It supports the full features of MAC Layer bridging and IP routing on a single platform using industry standards such as 802.1 Spanning Tree Protocol and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The ACS 4100 software enhancement routes TCP/IP data by checking all available network links and plotting the shortest path. Non- TCP/IP packets are bridged. Routing tables are built and maintained using dynamic routing protocols. (Janet Endrijonas/19900117/Press Contact: Marianne McCarthy, Advanced Computer Communications, 805-963-9431)
