MOBILE, Ala. (UPI) -- Floyd Peters, defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings the past four seasons, interviewed for the vacant coaching job with the New York Jets, it was announced Wednesday. Dick Steinberg, vice president and general manager of the Jets, met with Peters on Tuesday as both scouted players to participate in this weekend's Senior Bowl college all-star game. Peters becomes the fourth candidate to be interviewed by Steinberg for the job vacated when Joe Walton was fired Dec. 26. Steinberg previously has met with Michigan State Coach George Perles, the architect of the ``Steel Curtain'' defense while with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Bruce Coslet and Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vince Tobin. ``We started out with a group of very qualified coaches and all of the interviews have been very good,'' Steinberg said. ``They have all proved to be worthy candidates. We still have a few more interviews to conduct, then we have to make some decisions.''
