What could cause below error in ctcp_local_master.log: $ run pmdf_root:[exe]ctcp_master 17-JAN-90 11:56:13: SMTP routine failure on file: PMDF_ROOT:[QUEUE]CTCP_LOCAL_0 0930EA904240DC000011A84.00;1 If the node is currently unreachable can this happen? Will it be retried? The file is just left in [queue]. I am using PMDF 3.0 and CMU 6.4 -Jim Dryfoos

This is the sort of error you would get on a connection failure. If you
want to be sure what's going on, add the master_debug keyword to the
ctcp_local channel block. You'll get a much more detailed listing of
where the SMTP dialogue is failing. I'll bet it is a temporary failure
opening a connection, but the debugging keyword will make sure this
is the case.
I have fixed this lack of information for the next release. PMDF now
includes a more detailed explanation of what went wrong (or right)
when an "SMTP failure" occurs.
