WINNIPEG, Manitoba (UPI) -- Dave McLlwain scored two goals and assisted on Paul Fenteon's goal that snapped a 5-5 tie Sunday night to give the Winnipeg Jets a 6-5 victory over St. Louis. Fenton scored his 10th goal of the year with 2:04 remaining from in front after taking a perfect pass from McLlwain. Winnipeg extended its home-ice unbeaten streak to eight (6-0-2) with its fourth straight victory and are 8-0-2 in its last 10 games overall. Brett Hull scored his third hat trick of the season for the Blues and regained the league in goals with 41. Pat Lafontaine of the New York Islanders has 39. After Winnipeg had built a 5-1 on just nine shots on St. Louis goaltender Vince Riendeau, the Blues battled back to cut the lead to 5-4 on Paul Cavallini's goal at 2:09 of the third period, then tied the score at 5-5 with Hull's 41st at 6:08. Winnipeg jumped into a 2-0 lead when Dale Hawerchuk and Dave McLlwain scored goals 51 seconds apart in the first period. At 6:02, Hawerchuk scored a power-play goal when he defelected Pat Elynuik's weak shot past Vince Riendeau. Then at 6:53, McLlwain scooted down the right-hand boards from center ice, split the defense and slipped a back-handed shot into the net. Just over two minutes later, Blues Paul MacLean had a break-a-way squelched when Jets goalie Bob Essensa made a glove save for one of his 10-period saves.. Brent Ashton gave Winnipeg a 3-0 lead with a four-foot deflection at 15:45 before Brett Hull scored his 39th goal on a power play at 18:11. McLlwain jumped on an errant clearing attempt by Blues defenseman Dominic Lavoie for the Jets sixth shot on goal and a 4-1 Winnipeg lead 38 seconds into the second period. With 3:54 gone in the period, Essensa continued to rob the Blues, this time stopping Hull on a break-a-way. The Jets scored their fifth goal on nine shots when Doug Smail capped a pretty two-man dash through the Blues with Fredrik Olausson at 5:44. Hull scored his 40th goal at 12:55 of the second period when he tipped in Sergio Momesso's pass to cut the Jets lead to 5-2. At 17:05, Peter Zezel cut the gap to two goals when he slipped the puck between Essensa and the post on the glove side.
