UNIONDALE, N.Y. (UPI) -- Glenn Healy stopped 51 Vancouver shots Tuesday, shutting out the Canucks 3-0 and leading the the New York Islanders to their seventh victory in a row. Vancouver has lost five straight and have won only one of their last eight. It was Healy's first shutout of the season and second career whitewashing. Both shutouts have come against Vancouver. The resurgent Islanders moved ahead of the idle New York Rangers into second place in the Patrick Division, just two points behind New Jersey. The Devils lost to Washington. Healy was outstanding, stopping 12 shots in the first period and 21 in the second, before finishing his evening with 18 third-period saves for a total of 51. Randy Wood scored the game-winner at 4:23 of the second period, beating Canucks goalie Kirk McLean with a 15-footer which went through McLean when he came out to challenge Wood. Jeff Norton set up Wood on a two-man rush. Healy held off the Canucks, and with the aid of penalty killers Brent Sutter, Patrick Flatley, Don Maloney and Hubie McDonough killed off seven Vancouver manpower advantages. He made a great save on Dan Quinn during a power play with two minutes left. McDonough clinched the game for the Islanders at 16:32 of the third period with a 20-footer to Mclean's far side. Patrick Flatley scored into an empty net in the final minute of play for his 11th goal of the season.
