WINNIPEG, Manitoba (UPI) -- Daniel Marois assisted on three goals, including the final two of the game by Tom Kurvers and Vincent Damphouse, to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-5 overtime tie with the Winnipeg Jets. Kurvers and Damphouse scored third-period goals 24 seconds apart to tie the game at 5-5. At 10:35, Tom Kurvers scored Toronto's third power-play goal of the game and at 10:59 Damphouse lifted the third rebound over a sprawled Jets goalie Bob Essensa to tie the game. Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead on two first-period goals by Paul Fenton. Fenton, who was shifted from wing to center with the absence, due to injury, of Laurie Boschman and Tomas Steen, scored from a scramble at 5:03, then at 17:03 he redirected Fredrik Oluasson's blast from the point. The Leafs used power-play goals, 1:27 apart, by Tom Fergus and Gary Leeman to tie the score at 2-2 midway through the second period. At 7:10, the Jets Doug Smail took a fighting major for smacking Daniel Marois, and at 9:09, Marois' shot bounced behind Bob Essensa off the leg of Tom Fergus. At 10:36, Leeman redirectd Ed Olczyk's pass. Lou Franceschetti gave Toronto a short-lived 3-2 lead at 17:18 before Winnipeg roared back with two goals to take a 4-3 lead. Brent Ashton tied the score 3-3 at 17:45. At 18:33, Elynuik found Dale Hawerchuk behind Toronto goaltender Jeff Reese. Hawerchuk came from behind the net with a wrap-around goal to put Winnipeg ahead, 4-3. Elynuik put Winnipeg ahead 5-3 62 seconds into the third period.
