ST. LOUIS (UPI) -- The NHL and Anheuser-Busch Thursday announced the 10 nominees for the Clarence Campbell Conference for the 1989-90 Budweiser/NHL Man of the Year award. The award rewards community involvement and on-ice leadership and results in a $20,000 contribution to the overall winner's favorite charity. Each of the 21 nominees receives $1,000 to be given to his favorite charity. One player from each NHL team has been nominated for the award. The award is an annual award which goes to the player recognized in the local community as a positive role model through his conduct on and off the ice. This includes involvement with local youth groups, charities and causes as well as recognition from his peers and fans as a player who exhibits sportsmanlike qualities while maximizing his efforts toward improving his play and his team. Lanny McDonald was the 1989 recipient and Bryan Trittier was the inaugural recipient in 1988. The Campbell Conference nominees are: Doug Wilson of Chicago, Shawn Burr of Detroit, Mike Gartner of Minnesota, Rick Meagher of St. Louis, Rob Ramage of Toronto, Tim Hunter of Calgary, Kevin Lowe of Edmonton, Dave Taylor of Los Angeles, Rich Sutter of Vancouver and Peter Taglianetti of Winnipeg. Anheuser Busch also sponsors the Budweiser Stanley Cup Finals Most Valuable Player award and the NHL All-Star game's Most Valuable Player award.
