PORTLAND, Ore. (UPI) - Greg Leahy scored two goals Friday to lead the Portland Winter Hawks to a 7-2 Western Hockey League victory over the Victoria Cougars. Portland scored all the goals they needed in the first period, jumping a 3-0 lead through the first 20 minutes. The Winter Hawks pushed their advantage to 5-0 on goals by Ryan Slemko and Rick Fry in the second period. The Cougars tallied their only goals late in the middle frame with scores by Terry Klapstein and Mike Seaton. Portland's Scott Mydan and Brad Harrison added power plays goals in the final period to finish the scoring. The Winter Hawks improved their record to 16-33-2 while Victoria dropped to 3-44-2. Portland travels to Spokane Saturday to take on the Chiefs, a team they trail by nine points in the standings.
