NEW YORK (UPI) -- The NBA has suspended New Jersy Nets rookie
Stanley Brundy for the remainder of the 1989-90 season for failing a
random drug test, the league announced Friday.
Under an amendment of the league's Anti-Drug Agreement that was
adopted last November, all rookies are subject to random testing three
times during their rookie season.
If a player fails the test, he is automatically suspended for the
remainder of the year and is ineligible until next season.
Through the agreement, Brundy will be treated as if he had come
forward voluntarily and he will required to follow the after-care
provisions of the agreement. If he successfully completes the aftercare,
Brundy will be eligible to play in the 1990-91 season.
Brundy, a 6-foot-6 forward from DePaul, is the first player to be
suspended since the league began random testing on rookies during
training camp in 1988.
He was averaging 2.3 points per game in 16 games with the Nets this
season.
