PHILADELPHIA (UPI) -- The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Lewis Lloyd, a former city schoolboy star, to a 10-day contract, the team announced Monday. Lloyd, a 30-year-old free agent, was reinstated by the NBA Sept. 8 after being banned for 2 1/2 years for violating the league's anti-drug policy. Lloyd, who plays forward and guard, has spent four seasons with the Houston Rockets and two with the Golden State Warriors, averaging 13.8 points per game. He signed a contract worth $395,000 with the Rockets after his reinstatement but was waived Dec. 12 because of a weight problem that reoccurred after a severely sprained ankle. Lloyd replaces Kenny Payne on the Sixers' roster. Payne was placed on the injured reserve list Friday and will be out at least five games with shin splints.
