SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) -- Karl Malone scored 29 points to lead four
teammates in double figures Wednesday night as the Utah Jazz rolled to a
120-101 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Clippers, coming off a rare win over their crosstown rival Los
Angeles Lakers Tuesday night, scored an anemic 14 points in the first
quarter and were never in the game.
Gary Grant, who posted his first triple-double against the Lakers,
finished with two points. Charles Smith led Los Angeles, now 19-24, with
24 points.
Utah, which saw a nine-game winning streak end in Portland Tuesday
night, raised its home record to 20-3 in improving to 30-12.
Thurl Bailey scored 16 points for the Jazz, Bobby Hansen added 14
and Blue Edwards and Eric Leckner 10 apiece.
The Jazz scored the game's first eight points, then went on a 17-2
run en route to 29-14 lead after one quarter. The lead grew to as many
as 22 points in the second quarter and Utah took a 64-47 lead into the
second half.
Another spurt of 13-4 to open the third quarter gave Utah a 77-51
lead with 7:59 to play in the period, which ended with the Jazz ahead,
98-74.
Utah led by as many as 27 points in the fourth quarter.
